Keeping my short and long-term goals visible
I started up a recruitment business this year and I need to be able to focus on short term and long term goals to keep motivated. Being able to visualise my goals in detail and what I’m currently working towards was incredible helpful when having a difficult day/week. Having different sections for short term, long term and personal, business objectives also made me feel I could have all my goals in one place.
Getting started tips
I wrote down everything I wanted to accomplish in the next year and how much will they cost. I then categorised them into 4 sections:
1) Short term - your short terms goals you want to achieve in the next 3-6 months
2) Long term - after you have completed short terms goals what do you also want to achieve. Substitute your pulse into your short term list.
3) Investments for business - what large investments do you want to put into your business
4) Achieved - arguably the most important. It’s good to look forward but just as important it’s good to see what you have achieved so far.
"It keeps my motivation levels high, would also be a great tool for sales managers. "
Why we love this template
Working in recruitment can have great euphoric highs and soul crushing lows. Owning my own business amplifies this by a factor of 10.
Having a good visual goals list helps create consistency with work rate and productivity.
If you’re on a high, it keeps you grounded and focussed on the next goal.
If you’re in a low dip, it reminds you of what you have achieved so far and what you can achieve if you keep pushing.
Without this template I would
I’d find it difficult to keep in mind what I’m working towards. If I didn’t have this I wouldn’t have a clear goal and clear motivation for than days work.
Each Monday morning I check my goals list so I know what I’m working towards.
I would also probably have multiple places where I have the lists, written down, Excel, etc etc. This format allows me to keep updating one list.
